What Exactly Is Athleisure?

Athleisure……………I know you’ve seen that word.

It’s been used in magazines, Instagram, and even by some retailers. It’s the made up word that sounds like heaven, because it says that you can be both sporty and cute. FYI, when I say sporty, I really mean comfortable. Unless you’re a tomboy or a bonafide sneaker head, it would have been considered lazy style to show up to any function without heels. But not so much now. At day parties, which have successfully replaced a lot of nights at the club, it’s not uncommon for women to sport a cute pair of Converse Chuck Taylors, a pair of Nike Huarache’s or a pair of Adidas Superstars.

To be honest, nowadays you’d be hard pressed to find many women (who actually care about fashion) not to have all three of these shoes in their wardrobe. If you don’t, then you’d better. Because these shoes are comfortable, easy to style and did I say comfortable? As more workplaces are going casual dress code (like my office recently did), it’s becoming more common to sport these kicks with everyday dresses. I almost lost my mind when my office de-business casualized us.

I pair sneakers with shirt dresses, midi dresses, you name it. My sandals have barely gotten any play this summer. And you know what, I’m good with that. They wreak havoc on my pedicures, but since I’m not showing my toes as often, it works out. Check out a few casual weekend looks I rocked this summer. I’ll also throw in a few of my favorite athleisure shoes that have been in heavy rotation for me all summer.
